My Christmas Gift

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

For Christmas, I decided to get my girlfriend a new kitten since her older cat had died about a month ago from aging. The new kitten was black and white, and I decided that he morning of Christmas I would place him in a box with a whole bunch of pet supplies so that she would be surprised. I had to wake up really early on Christmas and sneak downstairs to set up everything. I placed the kitten in a small box, as well as a few pet supplies that I had picked up. I knew the kitten wouldn’t stay in there long so after ten minutes after I set it up, I went to go wake up my girlfriend. When she opened the box she was so excited and happy at the same time. She had wanted a new kitten for a long time, and she told me that it was like a dream come true for her.

Dog Training-Five Critical Things to Understand

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Dog training is really critical for owners but understanding the five basic issues about your dog is the first major step.

Dogs are unable to reason

This is one of dogs’ issues that we humans find it hard to comprehend. But as a dog owner you must understand the fact that your dogs also have senses but no sense of logic. We sometimes hear stories of dogs saving their peers or their owners but those are some of the amazing stories about dogs.

Dog needs a leader

Because of dogs’ reasoning inability, it is therefore made comfortable when the reasoning is done for him/her through a leader whom they trust. Otherwise, a dog can lose confidence and become frightened and unpredictable. It may also feel comfortable by assuming the leadership role. This situation arises a lot with people/dog relationships where the person refuses to be, or cannot become the leader.

Dogs have limited capacity of entering human’s reality.

Exposing our dogs to human ways is like teaching them about the things we do. But dogs can only comprehend up to a limited extent.

Dogs are status conscious

Dogs look at their owners or peer as either dominant or submissive. If your dog sees you as his boss, he sees himself as being submissive. Therefore, imposing authoritative impression at the beginning is a lot helpful for you to train your dog.

Dogs cannot think in the future.

When you punish your dog today for eating your ham, he will not remember right away that he will be punished again if he will eat your ham again. That’s why it is essential that you must be consistent in punishing dog until he refrain from doing the punishable act again. Fellow these tips to change the behaviour of your dog.

Basset Hound Training Tips: How to Stop Digging

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

To stop or prevent bad habits such as digging is among the many goals of proper Basset hound training. While it is not natural for Basset hounds to dig, they still have the propensity to do it and make it a habit due to various underlying reasons.

Knowing these reasons can help you determine the right Basset hound training methods to be applied so you can successfully deal with your pet’s unwanted behaviors. Physical punishments won’t generate any positive result, particularly during dog training sessions.

Some basset hounds dig because of boredom or loneliness. They may also find it entertaining or challenging. If this is your case, then you must immediately look for alternatives. If you can’t easily put a stop to this habit, train your dog to dig on a certain place or in a sand pit.

Providing interesting dog toys such as chew toys or making him undergo a series of interactive basset hound training exercises will keep him busy, fit and well-trained. Increasing playtime and grooming moments is also a good option to take.

Your dog might also be digging holes in order to escape confinement or to go on an adventure. This may cause further problems such as damage to other people’s properties, automobiles accidents or injury from aggressive animals. Thus, ensure your basset hound’s safety by putting up a durable but safe fence. Then again, consistent and appropriate Basset hound training is your only way of inculcating discipline and obedience.
