Baby Stroller and Car Seat

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

When I first saw the Evenflo Aura Select Travel System I immediately thought it was a fantastic idea and cute to boot. It comes in your choice of Georgia Stripe which has a bunch of plaid polka dots on it or in the “just way too cute” pink cuddle bear print. The stroller is well rated as a stroller and as a car seat. One feature that I think you’ll find yourself really liking is how easy it is to adjust the head restraint. Usually they’re difficult to adjust but on this car seat it’s a piece of cake. It’s rated for children weighing up to 50 pounds so your children aren’t going to be outgrowing it and it even has a wet wipes dispenser built in. The wheels are big enough that it rolls along nicely and it’s easy to steer with just one hand. There’s a tray for your child that is retractable if you don’t want it there. And while it’s not the cheapest stroller on the market, if you shop around online you can pick it up for $135 and you’ll even get free shipping with it.

With Your Baby Comes New Fears

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

I was the kind of father who was extremely nervous all the time while my wife was pregnant, and I think it all came to a head one morning when a week before our son was born I had to put in one of the rear facing car seats that we had just purchased. I was trying to read the instructions and simply could not follow along with them and they might as well been written in a different language, because I simply didn’t understand any of it. The truth of the matter is I was extremely frustrated with everything and wasn’t sure if I was ready to be a father, and I had myself completely stressed out. I carried these feelings with me well through the time my baby was born, and eventually I came to the realization that I did have the kind of instincts that it took to be a good father. All I had to do is learn to trust myself, and believe that I could make the right decisions for my baby.

A Number of Gender Selection Techniques to Try

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

If you are trying to predetermine the sex of your baby, and you want to find out how to conceive a girl, you might be trying to work out in your mind what the best gender selection techniques are. If you are in a position where you already have two male children, you might want to maximize your chances of conceiving a girl baby next time. If that’s the case, there are programs out there specifically designed to help you with your choices.

In certain cultures boy children are more celebrated than girls. We in the West find that difficult to understand, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t times when we might have a preference of one sex over the other. And of course, while we have the right to choose, we don’t want to have to pay thousands of dollars to achieve it. That’s the kind of money some fertility clinics will charge you for their help, but you can get practical advice for a fraction of that price.

About My Favorite Toys from the Early 1960s

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Back in the early 1960s, they had not yet developed the “safe” plastics and rounded edges that toys have today – we mostly had wooden toys. When I was very young, I had three toys that still stand out in my memory as favorites. The first was a doll house. It was made of stamped tin. The rooms in the doll house were very detailed and the painted walls, windows, and floors always impressed me. Another favorite toy was a little oven that really worked. I wasn’t allowed to plug it in unless my Mom was there to help me, so most of the time, I just pretended. But once in a while, Mom would help, and we made little cakes that were made especially for the little oven. As I recall, the cakes didn’t taste as good as the looked, but the process was a lot of fun. My favorite toy of all, though, was a rocking horse. I called him Toby. My Mom would put music the record player and I would rock to the music for hours. Although I outgrew Toby more than 45 years ago, I never outgrew my love for rocking to music. I now have rockers in almost every room, and whenever I become stressed or worried, I still do what I did so many years ago: close my eyes and rock to the music. I have Toby to thank for that!

Why Should I Be Interested in an Organic Crib Mattress?

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

We all know about the benefits of organic foods, but now we hear we should be thinking of buying an organic crib mattress too. So what is it that we should know about these mattresses that is so important? Usually, items that are labeled organic, whether they be vegetables, milk or other products it usually means it is derived from completely natural sources which have not been artificially enhanced by man-made chemicals. We expect organic products to be made of non-toxic organic materials and not with chemically produced raw materials.

Initially the crib mattress was made of materials that were factory originated, but in recent years there has been research which suggests some of the chemicals involved have had adverse effects on children. The materials used to make the mattresses like the plasticizers, fire retardants, and the other chemicals used to make the vinyl cover and the foam are known to expose a lot of fairly nasty chemicals to young babies. Physicians are advising parents to turn to the organic crib mattress alternative for the safety of their babies.

Organic crib mattresses are made of organic fibre. The certification; Oregun Tilth Certified Organic, requires that fiber and fabrics must be made from certified materials and meet the set standards. All the components of the baby crib mattress such as its fire protection capability and the innersprings must meet the rigid non-toxic standards.

There are other crib mattresses labeled ‘Eco’ and others ‘green’. These are not necessarily organic and they can be misleading to buyers who may not know what materials are used to make them. An example is the soybean or plant derived label, these mattresses are made of 80% chemicals and are not really organically made. Others are labeled with bamboo fabric which is actually not the case; they are in most cases made of environmentally deadly chemicals and there is no trace of bamboo fabric in them. So it is good to take note that not all these Eco products and materials are natural and they are made of chemicals which are harmful to the young children.

Water Flutes Are Bathtub Fun For The Kids

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

If you have small children, then you know how much fun bath time can be. Our kids love being in the tub. I sometimes think they could live in there. Naturally, having toys in the tub is a must. Unfortunately, they can’t take their Kung Zhu toys in there with them, so we got them some water flutes.

I know what you have to be thinking; those have to be annoying. But surprisingly, that’s not the case. Besides that, the kids love them. The way these water flutes work is that the sounds will vary with the amounts of water that is inside it. So the kids get all sorts of sounds they really enjoy.

The one thing to be aware of with this kind of toy is the water itself. Kids can swallow the water from playing the flutes if they are not careful or don’t understand that they shouldn’t do it. Obviously, you wouldn’t want your youngster swallowing soapy water from Mr. Bubbles. Other than that caution these flutes are really a lot of fun.
