A Miraculous Day
Saturday, April 16th, 2011
I was standing amidst the thick of frantic crowd, who were at their state of panic. It had been a frightful night when the lights went out, when the earth shook and when the catastrophe struck the land in one blow. Blackness hovered over the place and for a split second we all thought the blinding dark might live on forever.
Hour after hour, I heard women crying, men cursing and all the while I kept my hands together in solid hope and prayer that all these frightful happenings would turn into a dream and we’d all wake up to the bright sunshine. As I closed my eyes and kept my ears and my heart shut, I felt my spirit receding to the whiles of hopelessness. So suddenly, when I almost felt there wasn’t any spark of hope left, the panic was calmed, lights went back as if done by electrician jobs and there was no evidence of damage.

Travel Agent Training and Communication Skills
Saturday, April 2nd, 2011
A friend and I were recently playing the either/or game. As in, would you prefer to have a peaceful, platonic marriage or a fiery, passionate one (her question) or: would you prefer to have a surly travel agent that found you great deals or a friendly one that was less efficient (mine). This was on my mind because my brothers girlfriend recently finished her travel agent training, and of course I was requested to give her a chance when booking my next vacation. I begrudgingly forwent my usual curmudgeonly agent and made an appointment with Buttercup. Can you hear me sighing? I have to say that my go-to travel agent is shockingly cheap with words and I never realized how easy it was to hear every word he said because every syllable mattered. I think I’m going to advise the loquacious Buttercup to intern with the old grouch so she learns the value of clear communication and the power of an affordable vacation!

How to Write a Resume for an Engineering Job
Sunday, February 6th, 2011
Writing a resume for employment in an mining engineering job can be a little different to a normal resume.
People who are offering employment in engineering jobs in the mines often look for some very specific things. These can include clear communication skills, notable past achievements, and qualifications. Try and keep this in mind, and avoid somewhat irrelevant points such as hobbies or interests.
Your resume should show why you are suitable for the engineering job that is being offered. Talk about some of the projects you have handled in the past, and your successes with those. If you are seeking a job in software design, for example, mention some of the programs you have contributed to in the past, and why they were successful.
If you have notable qualifications in a particular area, don’t forget to mention them. Did you graduate top of your class at MIT in electrical engineering? Put that in there somewhere. Sometimes even qualifications which seem unrelated can be important. Someone looking to hire a project manager will definitely give you points for your bachelor of pure mathematics degree. People offering employment in engineering jobs will look to hire people who are intelligent, not just those qualified in their field.
Remember to thoroughly read and edit your work. A single spelling mistake could be the deciding factor an employer looks for when trying to pick from two otherwise equal candidates, as those employed in engineering jobs are expected to pay close attention to detail. Use a spellchecker, and have someone else read over it when you are done.
Keep in mind that most resumes will be read on a computer screen. If relevant, include some pictures of your previous engineering experiences. This can help an employer feel like they are getting to know you better, and this feeling could contribute to them hiring you for the engineering job.
Try and keep the resume as positive as possible. For example, you shouldn’t include things like reasons you have left previous jobs. Employers are looking for enthusiastic, motivated people who can create a positive working environment. Even if they only do it subconsciously, they are more predisposed to hire people for engineering jobs if they are generally happy, positive people.
Some people do a chronological resume, listing all their job experiences and accomplishments in the order that they happened. If you intend to do this, it can sometimes be better to do it in reverse chronological order. Employers often glance quickly over resumes, so if you want to land that engineering job, you will want to present as much convincing information as quickly as you can. And this means putting your most recent and relevant personal experiences first.
If you don’t get your first job, don’t be discouraged. There are plenty of other applicants out there, but also plenty of other jobs. You may not get that dream engineering job you were after, but keep in mind that everyone starts small with a less than perfect job. Put in lots of hard work, and you can get anywhere you want to.

Balancing Motherhood with an at Home Career
Sunday, December 12th, 2010
Work From Home Moms are great as far as the family goes. You are able to throw in laundry, be home in case of any emergency with the kids. In most cases your schedule is fairly flexible so you can run kids to school, lessons, or do whatever other errands need to be taken care of.
Where all of this is great, working from home presents its own set of problems. Many women push themselves too hard, trying to prove to those at the office that she is just as valuable as they are. Often the at-home position was created as a favor, which adds to the pressure to succeed. It can also be lonely for someone who is used to working in an office and having relationships with co-workers.
It is important to remember to take some personal time in order to avoid falling into an emotional low. Weekly lunch with friends or trips to the office to check in and catch up are great ways to keep from being swallowed up by the daily pressures of motherhood combined with housekeeping and career.

Getting Through Nervousness when Interviewing for a Job
Tuesday, September 28th, 2010
Filling out a Ross application is probably the easiest step in the whole application process. No need to be nervous when you’re sitting, sometimes in the comfort of your own home, filling out aLowes job application online. The nervousness tends to set in when you get the phone call to set up that anticipated interview.
Getting the phone call can set you into a tailspin of nervousness, if you are not prepared. Although it is not always a bad thing to be nervous, an interview is not the place you want your nervousness to show through. When you fill out your Costco job application online make sure you keep a copy of it for yourself so that you can review it before your interview.
Depending on when the interview is set for will let you know how much time you have to prepare. One of the best tools to use when it comes to an interview is knowledge. The first part of your knowledge is easy because it is all about you and no one knows you better than you know yourself. Go over in you mind the accomplishments you have made and what you did to reach your goals, both personally and professionally. Practice saying these things out loud (using these tools will help you remember what you want to say). Then do some research on the company you are apply with. No need to get all the technical details, just some standard details, such as the mission statement and what services the company offers. Having this information is a simple way to know what you are walking into, especially when they ask you if you have any questions for them.
A tool that has been used many times over by successful people all over the world is visualization. If you can, figure out what makes you so nervous when you walk into an interview. Literally, sit down and visualize walking into the interview, how you will greet your interviewer and even how you will sit. Every opportunity you get, visualize the same scenario with the same positive outcome. What you are doing is training your brain to react without even thinking about it.
This technique works great when it comes to those questions that involve situations. For example, “how would you handle a disagreement with your immediate supervisor”? Think about your answer and then say it out loud. Do this over and over again and before you know it, you’ll be able to answer that question without thinking about it. In other words you response will be quick, direct and accurate without using those nervous filler words like “um”.
The important thing to remember when you walk into any interview is that the person sitting across from you is just another person. Talk to them like you would talk with anyone you dealt with in your professional world.
So before walking into that interview, take a deep breath and know, you’re prepared your ready and most importantly, you have the confidence to get through what you once thought you never could.

Do We Need The Foreign Staff?
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
Why would anybody hire foreign workers? Why not to hire locals for the same jobs? Did not the unemployment reach ten percent? Why do we need foreigners to take our jobs from us?
It is quite understandable that many Americans do not like foreigners taking their jobs. At the same time Americans may not wish to do manual labour for cheap. Many restaurant owners complain that in spite of the unemployment, they have yet to see a spike in the number of applications for various positions such as a dish-washer, bus-boy, or cleaner.
Americans do prefer to take jobs with less work and better pay. Many would not find it possible to live on a salary of 15 to 20 thousands per year.
So how do the foreigners manage not only to live but also to save. First of all, they often work 80-90 hours per week to double their earnings. Secondly, they simply do not spend on restaurants or any other form of entertainment.
